Introduction:

We invest a lot in buying Photo equipment, spend a lot on traveling and come back home with thousands of images, literally Gigabytes of images. After coming home, we dump our images on our computers/hard discs and the data goes in Terabytes !

High time we think seriously about organizing & editing our images in a systematic way so that we can fetch our hard earned images as & when required. Say there's some exhibition in town & you want to submit an image of a butterfly that you shot 10 years back in some forest in India.How do you instantly get that image? That's where Lightroom software rules ! Its not only a powerful cataloging (organizing) software but also a RAW image editing software. There are lot of filters & labeling options to work smartly with your images.

You can edit RAW images while traveling & sync those edits on your main computer at home. Your images need not be on your laptop !

Q: Is there any age limit or qualification requirement?
A: No there is no age limit or qualification required for the workshop. Right from 5th standard students to working professionals to housewives to businessmen to retired individuals...anyone who has a passion and enthusiasm to learn photography can participate. All you need is a basic knowledge of using computer.

Q: Do I need a Laptop for the Lightroom workshop?
A: Yes you have to bring your own Laptop for the Post processing workshop. Most important, you have to install Lightroom. Remember it takes long time to download and install Lightroom. So make sure you install it well in advance. I can guide you through the process. Please note you can install & run trial version of the latest Lightroom software and buy it after the trail version expires. I won't be providing Lightroom or any other software to the participants !

This course is aimed at beginners and amateur photographers who wish to learn basics of the art and craft of photography. With the advent of digital photography and lot of camera/lens options available in the market at affordable prices, one needs to have a thorough understanding of the fundamentals of photography. After attending this course you can make a smarter and knowledgeable choice of buying your next camera or lenses. Intelligent use of simplest equipment is better than an unknowledgeable use of advanced equipment!

Further tips will also be given to make good compositions, exposures and the thought process behind making good images.

Basic Photography workshop:

  • Types of cameras
  • Using various exposure modes on your camera like Program, Manual, Aperture priority & shutter priority.
  • Types of lenses – Understanding specifications of various kinds of lenses and specialty lenses for different kinds of photography
  • Effective use of white balance, iso, focusing modes, shutter speeds, apertures etc
  • How to measure light & set your exposure in manual mode
  • Accessories – Use of tripods, filters and other accessories to enhance photography
  • Composition – Your images might be technically correct but they also have to be aesthetically pleasing for viewers to appreciate

Post Processing (Photo editing) workshop: 

Many a times it happens that a photographer shoots with the right equipment and techniques but the final result on a computer or print looks dull. There are various Photoshop techniques to enhance your image without 'manipulating' them. This unique workshop has been designed specifically for photographers who want to refine their digital workflow and polish their skills in Photoshop. Participants have to bring along with them their DSLR cameras & Laptops with Photoshop installed in it.

Topics covered in PP workshop:

  • RAW workflow - shooting and processing RAW images in free open source softwares.
  • Color management - understanding color spaces to get accurate color in camera, print or on a website or facebook, instagram
  • Histogram
  • Image adjustments like Levels, curves, saturation etc
  • Layer masking
  • Resizing & sharpening images
  • Removing dust from images

Q: How many participants are expected in the workshop?
A: About 10 to 20

Q: Can I learn Photography in a single day? Is it not too short compared to long term photography classes ?
A: Beleive me yes you can ! Till date a few hundred participants have successfully attended and some have already started getting awards in competetions. It all depends on how well you practice the concepts learnt during the workshop after you go home. Believe me its as simple as learning to drive a vehicle.

Q: What kind of camera is required for the workshop?
A: A DSLR or any point and shoot camera with a Manual "M" mode will do.

Q: I do not have a camera. I want to buy one after gaining knowledge in the workshop. Can I still attend the workshop?

A: The concepts & techniques that I will be teaching will be a compilation of years of experience as a professional photographer. There are some concepts which I myself did not know for a long time during my early days in photography. So am sure you will learn more techniques !

Star-Trail Photography & Star gazing Workshop by Kedar Bhat

In short it is long exposure photography of the stars in the night sky. There are a number of techniques and software to do the job. As against regular photography, basic knowledge of Astronomy is equally important to do Star-Trail photography. In this workshop I will be teaching fundamentals of Astronomy and star gazing along with the actual techniques, equipment and post processing software. At the end of the workshop participants will take home at-least one good quality Star-Trail photo.

I will be bringing a telescope for Star-gazing session during the workshop. You can also bring your own telescopes/binoculars etc for the workshop if you have one.

Who can join?:

You don't need any prior knowledge of Astronomy. I will be teaching basic Astronomy too. All you need is a DSLR or a point and shoot camera with manual exposure mode and a laptop to process the images during the workshop. If you don't have a laptop, you can do processing at home. I will guide you while you process them on your own at home.

I can provide a DSLR on rent for the day @ Rs.600/-

Directions: Reach Donje Phata and take a right turn. Proceed towards Khanapur village (Khanapur Manerwadi on Google map). Take left turn towards Thoptewadi in a narrow lane next to Mataji Sweets. After about 1.5km take a small left to Ranjai farms.

24 Dec, Saturday:

  • 5.30 pm Report at Ranjai farms at Khanapur village near Sinhgad on your own.
  • 6 pm Evening tea and introduction.
  • 7pm to 8.30pm Classroom session. Here I will be teaching fundamentals of Astronomy, Star-gazing, software & Start-trail Photography techniques with demonstration.
  • 8.30 pm Dinner
  • 9.30 pm to 1am Star trail photography under the night sky.
  • 1 am Participants will retire to their tents to sleep.


25 Dec, Sunday:

  • 6.30 am Morning tea.
  • 8 am Breakfast.
  • 8.30 am to 10am I will be teaching post-processing of the images we have shot on the previous night.
  • 11 am Program ends & participants go home with their Star-trail Photos.

In short it is long exposure photography of the stars in the night sky. There are a number of techniques and software to do the job. As against regular photography, basic knowledge of Astronomy is equally important to do Star-Trail photography. In this workshop I will be teaching fundamentals of Astronomy and star gazing along with the actual techniques, equipment and post processing software. At the end of the workshop participants will take home at-least one good quality Star-Trail photo.

I will be bringing a telescope for Star-gazing session during the workshop. You can also bring your own telescopes/binoculars etc for the workshop if you have one.

Who can join?:

You don't need any prior knowledge of Astronomy. I will be teaching basic Astronomy too. All you need is a DSLR or a point and shoot camera with manual exposure mode and a laptop to process the images during the workshop. If you don't have a laptop, you can do processing at home. I will guide you while you process them on your own at home.

I can provide a DSLR on rent for the day @ Rs.600/-

for participants who have earlier attended this workshop & want to practice/refresh/polish their skills.

Please note:

  • It will be cold out there. So do carry woolens/sleeping bags/gloves etc.
  • Food served will be basic good Maharashtrian veg food.
  • Accommodation will be in Tents. For Star-Trail photography we need remote locations away from city lights and pollution. Hence the choice of this location.
  • Do carry your medicines.
  • Smoking and alcohol strictly prohibited


Venue: Ranjaai Farms, Khanapur village, near Donje Phata, Pune. Pl See the map at the bottom.

Directions: Reach Donje Phata and take a right turn. Proceed towards Khanapur village (Khanapur Manerwadi on Google map). Take left turn towards Thoptewadi in a narrow lane next to Mataji Sweets. After about 1.5km take a small left to Ranjai farms.

Schedule:

1 April, Saturday:

  • 5.30 pm Report at Ranjai farms at Khanapur village near Sinhgad on your own.
  • 6 pm Evening tea and introduction.
  • 7pm to 8.30pm Classroom session. Here I will be teaching fundamentals of Astronomy, Star-gazing, software & Start-trail Photography techniques with demonstration.
  • 8.30 pm Dinner
  • 9.30 pm to 1am Star trail photography under the night sky.
  • 1 am Participants will retire to their tents to sleep.


2 April, Sunday:

  • 7 am Morning tea.
  • 8 am Breakfast.
  • 8.30 am to 10am I will be teaching post-processing of the images we have shot on the previous night.
  • 11 am Program ends & participants go home with their Star-trail Photos.

  4. Once I receive your payment, I will send you a confirmation email and your seat will be confirmed.

Cancellation policy:
Fees won’t be refunded. But I can give you 2 choices:

  1. You have an option to transfer your participation to a person of your choice for the same workshop
  2. You can attend a future workshop of mine within next 3 months by paying an additional fee of Rs.1000/-.  After that period you will have to pay complete fee as applicable at that point of time, if you wish to attend my workshop.
